For Māori writers looking to take the next step

Te Papa Tupu is a six-month programme specifically for writers who are part way to completing a manuscript and looking to take a step forward in their journey to publishing.

Chosen writers are partnered with a mentor to develop their manuscript and improve their writing skills, all to meet the end goal of having a publishable manuscript. Writers will attend workshops and writers’ festivals, become part of a writing community and receive a stipend to cover costs.

At the end of the programme, each writer submits their manuscript to Huia Publishers for consideration.

‘Pairing promising writers with effective mentors is an important part of the development of our writers and Māori literature.’

Robyn Bargh, Chairperson, Māori Literature Trust
