In 2000, we established this charitable trust to deliver programmes that promote and foster Māori literature and its place in the literature of the nation. Guided by our own cultural values, we seek to grow Māori writers’ skills, confidence and opportunity. We encourage Māori writers to stand tall as Māori and to support each other and become a strong force within the literary community of Aotearoa New Zealand.
We are excited to once again offer our Te Papa Tupu incubator programme for 2024–25!
Te Papa Tupu is open to Māori writers who have written a manuscript, are living in Aotearoa and are committed to attending, learning and fulfilling a dream of being published. This is a fantastic opportunity to be connected with other Māori writers and industry experts. As a selected Te Papa Tupu finalist, you will be paired with an experienced mentor, have the opportunity to attend high profile writer’s festivals and receive a generous writer’s stipend for six months.
To get the most out of this mentoring programme, applicants should submit a full first draft of a manuscript. Please read our full terms and conditions before submitting your application.
As we are a charitable trust who rely on the generosity of wonderful people in the world, our team is raising $30,000 to cover the operational costs of Te Papa Tupu this month.
The world needs Māori writers and their stories now more than ever, so join us for the next 31 days as we introduce you to a huge range of kaituhi Māori on Facebook and Instagram. Plus, we’ve got some wicked prizes lined up for Poutūterangi.
No matter how big or small, every contribution makes a huge difference. If you don’t have the means to koha right now, we would greatly appreciate sharing the link below with your friends and whānau. Mauri ora!
